Grandma’s Room: A Collection of Remembered Things

I love how objects can tell a story and create a glimpse into someone’s life.
— Kurston M.

My grandparents used to live in New Orleans East right by the Bunny Bread factory. I used to think we called them Grandma and Grandpa Bunny because of it. I have the fondest memories of that house.

My grandmother, a devout Catholic lit candles, collected Holy Water, said the Rosary and always prayed for family, neighbors, anyone in need really. Her faith carried her through immense bouts of sadness and overflowing joy. In retirement she volunteered at Charity Hospital spreading kindness and love. My mother and her siblings were all married at Immaculate Conception in Pines Village, their neighborhood church.

Now her memories are starting to fade and her faith is wavering. While moving through some feelings I started gathering pieces of my grandmother. I wanted to create an intimate portrait of my Grandma Bunny through a collection of remembered things. Some things I remember so vividly like her parakeets perching on her rollers and the plethora of pink nail polish.

I am re-learning my camera and Adobe Lightroom but wanted to share this series I’ve been working on over the last week. I love you Grandma Bunny. - Kurston
